NEW YORK LIFE TO LIVE IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY
New York Life Insurance Company, the largest mutual life insurance company in the United States, has completed its purchase of the Mount Pleasant Executive Center located on Route 9 in Sleepy Hollow. NY Life plans to position 1,000 employees in Westchester while retaining 3,000 at its corporate headquarters in Manhattan. The Westchester County Office of Economic Development worked closely with Mt. Pleasant Supervisor Bob Meehan on assisting NY Life with this relocation.

TERRA TILE EXPANDS WITHIN WESTCHESTER
Small business is the heart of Westchester’s economy--employing over 70% of Westchester’s workforce. With County Executive Andy Spano making it a priority to find innovative ways to help small business, the Westchester County Industrial Development Agency (WCIDA) now offers small business assistance. Most recently, the WCIDA agreed to exempt Terra Tile of Briarcliff Manor from paying certain sales and mortgage taxes. Terra Tile, which sells and installs tile and stone for flooring, countertops and walls, will be constructing a $1.3 million, 30,000-square-foot building at Schuman Street, Millwood, NY, for fabricating and storing its products. The company is located at 525 North State Road in Briarcliff Manor, NY.

Businesses planning to expand or relocate to Westchester County can access a broad range of financing resources, such as tax exempt and taxable bond financing. Additionally, the WCIDA can also exempt a company from paying sales tax on the purchase of equipment, furniture and fixtures (including computer equipment and software) if the benefits will help the company improve its competitiveness, remain in the county, create new jobs or retain existing jobs. Small businesses spending at least $100,000 or more on eligible purchases may apply for these sales tax benefits. Exemptions are for purchases for use at the company's Westchester location for a period not to exceed 5 years. Purchase of a new building as well as rehabilitation and new construction can be exempted from the NYS Mortgage Recording Tax.
