- The Empire State Development
Corporation (ESDC) offers a broad array of business services and economic
assistance including loans and/or grants. The ESDC also promotes entrepreneurship
at centers throughout the State that provide classroom training, counseling,
technical assistance and mentoring. Additionally, a full array of export promotion
programs is available to assist firms in expanding their export markets.
- The New York State Department
of Economic Development (DED) subsidizes certain projects that hire and/or
train workers for businesses.
- The Hudson Valley Technology Development
Center (HVTDC) provides a wide range of technical, business and manufacturing
assistance to help a company grow. These can include process and business
improvements; operational improvements; sales and marketing assistance; technology
and entrepreneurial assistance; and workforce development.
- SCORE, the Service Core of Retired Executives,
is a resource partner with the US Small Business
Administration (SBA). SCORE provides expert business management advice
to prospective small business owners. The White Plains chapter office does
not charge for individual counseling. Free weekly workshops are held throughout
the year addressing 10 specific business topics. SCORE also maintains a Cyber
Chapter where specific questions can be dealt with by e-mail. Access can be

- The SBA provides customer-oriented, full
service programs that include management assistance, business planning, access
to federal contracts and much more. The SBA offers a new program called "Low
Doc," which is a simplified application that can be completed by a loan
applicant and his or her bank. Businesses with sales below $5 million and
100 employees may apply.
- In addition, the SBA also provides, disaster recovery help for businesses and provides
Military Reservist Economic Injury Disaster Loans.
- The New York State Small Business Development
Center (SBDC) provides expert management and technical assistance to start-ups
and existing small businesses. The SBDC is sponsored by the Small Business
Administration and operates 22 campus based regional centers and 23 outreach
offices across New York. These centers can apply the resources of university,
private sector and government to solve problems and foster entrepreneurship.
